ABOUT PABLO

He was born on the Canary island of La Palma, in the northwestern town of Tijarafe, where he grew up in a family environment surrounded by music and painting, against the breathtaking backdrop of the Isla Bonita’s natural landscape. He received his first violin at the age of 6, and began to study classical music at the Escuela Insular de Música de La Palma (La Palma Island School of Music). When he turned 13, his view of the violin was changed forever upon hearing a record by the legendary French jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli. Thus, he embarked on a self-led education in jazz, in tandem with his classical training. He continued his studies at the Amaniel Professional Conservatory under the violinist Alfredo García Serrano and later, at the University of Codarts Rotterdam in 2014, where he completed his higher studies in classical violin and a master’s degree in Latin Jazz. During that time, he took classes with Andras Czifra and collaborated on numerous projects with artists such as Gordan Nikolić, Frankie Gavin, Gjermund Larsen, James Morrison, and Niti Ranjan Biswas, among others.

In his career as an artist, Pablo has performed in numerous prestigious venues and festivals throughout Europe, Brazil and Turkey, sharing the stage with a variety of artists such as Jorge Pardo, Tim Kliphuis, Trio Da Kali, Jose Manuel León, Lilian Vieira, Oene van Geel, Carles Benavent, Kike Perdomo, Javier Infante and Domingo “El Colorao”, among others. Likewise, he was awarded the Best Soloist Award in the 2019 edition of the Canaries Jazz Showroom.

Pablo currently combines his activities in music with numerous projects and recordings in Europe. He is a founding member of the Dutch North Sea String Quartet, and forms a duo with the Cuban pianist Humberto Ríos – with whom he recently released his first album “Conversations”. He is also a member of the Dutch jazz project Amsterdam Orkest (AM.OK), led by Dutch composer Tijn Wybenga. Pablo sporadically teaches improvisation workshops for classical strings, and he promotes the Academy for Improvising Strings every year, together with the renowned Dutch jazz violinist Tim Kliphuis.
